A Japanese rider from an Edo-era scroll, riding Katamidareashi (片乱足). The word kata (片) refers to one of a pair; in this case, one foot of a pair, on the left or right side. This illustration most likely shows a hard racking gait (single foot). A full description can be found in the book, “Lost Traditions: Horses and Horse Medicine in pre-Modern Japan.”
