This print, called "Summer Horse Market, (c. 1832 - 1833, by Ando Hiroshige), shows the busy horse market at Chiryu station, one of the stops of the Tokaido, the road connecting the city of Edo (modern day Tokyo) to the imperial capital of Kyoto. In addition to the horses, of note are the pine trees, which were planted by order of the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, and survived until the 1959 Isewan Typhoon.
