A Japanese rider from an Edo-era scroll, riding Nobiashi (延足), likely a fast, running walk (in Japanese, the word nobiru (延びる) means, “to stretch.” This gait can be seen in modern Tennessee Walking Horse. A full description can be found in the book, “Lost Traditions: Horses and Horse Medicine in pre-Modern Japan.”
